Auto-erotic performer - Definition and Overview

An auto-erotic performance is adult entertainment performance consisting of the act of an individual masturbating to climax on a stage for the entertainment of a crowd of people. As the pornography industry expanded hugely, it became increasingly difficult to draw people to strip club venues. An alternative was to instead have performers individually appear on a stage and pleasure themselves while the audience watched.

The term was coined in the gay community, where the performances originated. One of the original performers to become well known for auto-erotic performance was gay stripper and pornographic film star Jeff Stryker.
