Avram - Definition

The Duchy of Avram and The Grand Duchy of Avram are called by some a micronation. The Grand Duke mainly resides near the town of Sorell in the south eastern part of Australia's island state, Tasmania.

It was re established in the early 1980s by His Grace, The Most Noble, The Duke of Avram, after the death of his father. The name on his birth certificate is The Rt. Hon. The Earl of Enoch, John. The name on his two "Australian" passports is His Grace, The Most Noble, The Duke of Avram on which he has travelled widely. A family history that dates back over 1,000 years. Before this he was a member of numerous Orders of Chivalry as The Earl of Enoch. All his titles are verified by various Letter Patent and Royal Charters. Currently he is Grand Master of several Orders of Chivalry which date back over 900 years. These can be viewed at www.grandduchy.org. In 1982 he was elected Cardinal Archbishop of The Royal See (www.royalsee.org)and his history can be viewed in the Who's Who of the World between Elton John and the Current Catholic Pope. He is a religious leader and natural healer in many parts of the world and the meaning of (Avram) is "he who walks with God and has a knowledge of God".

In 1980 following a Doctorial thesis by His Grace. This Bank has operates world wide and at several Tasmanian locations.

The fact that it was not registered as a subsidiary with the Reserve Bank of "Australia", caused their ire. A civil action ensued authorised in writing by Mr. Keating in 1985 and the Cabinet of "Australia". The Commonwealth of Australia lost all six cases with no case to answer, they appealed all six and lost the six appeals. The prosecutors found when they entered the Court there were no legal precedents. These six cases are reported to have cost the tax payers of "Australia" over 22 million dollars and His Grace only $175 and created interesting world legal history. These historic cases brought the Bank world and much local publicity and it has continued to this day.

Some believe that this contributed to the election of His Grace, The Most Noble, The Duke of Avram to the Parliament of Tasmania where he served as Shadow minister of Construction with distinction. His election also caused the Queen to issue Letters Patent to celebrate this event. Election under this name is believed to be the longest name of any person to a bicameral Parliament in the world. It is also believed that he is the only Peer to sit in any bicameral Parliament.

His Grace has also since served as Deputy Mayor of Sorell as well as a Councillor.

The Grand Duke is shown in over 100 Who's Who and is an internationally known sportsman, yachtman, bowler, footballer tennis player etc.

The Grand Duke has apparently never officially claimed territory in the manner of other Australian micronations.
