Ayran is a popular drink in Turkey, made up of a yogurt and water mixture. Salt is usually added to it for flavour. It is served cool, and usually accompanies meat, kebap or pastry.
Ayran is so popular in Turkey that it is regarded as separate market comparable to fruit juices or cola. In Turkey, McDonalds includes ayran in their standard menus.
Outside of Turkey, it may be found at döner kebap joints.
