The Azadi Tower is the symbol of Tehran, Iran, and marks the entrance to this gigantic metropolitan city.
This huge and intriguing monument was built in 1971 and was named the Shayhad Tower (meaning "The tower which reminds of the Shah") but dubbed Azadi (Freedom) after the Iranian Revolution of 1978. It is a 50 meters (148 foot) tall and is completely covered by nicely cut marble.
Being a combination of the Sassanid and Islamic architecture styles, this tower is a part of the Azadi cultural complex which is located in Tehran`s Azadi square in an area of some 5 hectares.
There is museum and several fountains underneath the tower.
