BME stands for Body Modification E-Zine. It is a online magazine (as opposed to traditional print/newsstand) that chronicles the current body modification world; from tattoos to piercings,
from implants to amputation.
It was started as a web site in 1994 by
Shannon Larratt aka glider and is the first and the
biggest for profit body modification web site.
BME was further expanded in 2000 by the addition of the community oriented IAM site, then in 2004 removed community chat and addressed growing concerns over issues of personal expression, and questionable practices that may be considered to be acts of "performing medicine without a license", as it relates to areas such as amputation, implants and mutilation.
