Backslang Backslang

Backslang - Definition

Backslang is the British name for so-called pig Latin, which is used as a cant.

A second definition of Backslang involves simply saying a word as if it is spelt backwards, for example riah for hair, ecaf for face, eson for nose. Such constructions are used in the language variety polari, as well as in the Australian butchers' cant rechtub klat.
