Balder the Brave is a fictional character in Marvel Comics' Thor, based on the god Balder of Norse mythology. He is a friend of Thor and the Warriors Three and is known for his valor and courage. Balder ruled Asgard for a period of time after Odin was believed killed in battle with Surtur. He has in the past been the lover of Karnilla the Norn Queen, who is otherwise an enemy of Asgard. Balder is the Asgardian god of light, and in addition to the typical Asgardian abilities of superhuman strength, endurance and longevity, he can generate bioluminescence.
