Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution are a ska band, considered a part of the third-wave. It is composed of former Catch 22 (band) members Tomas Kalnoky (guitar/vocals/songwriting) and Jamie Egan (trombone) in addition to Nick Afflitto (trumpet), Marcy Ciuffreda (cello), Rachel Goldstein (viola, vocals), Layton Hayes (piano), Achilles Kalnoky (violin), Paul Lowndes (drums), Chris Paszik (double bass), Mark Rendeiro (french horn), Dan Ross (baritone saxophone, alto saxophone), Pete Sibilia (tenor saxophone), Shane Thomson (congas, Timbales), and Natalia Ushak (vocals). Their music consists of a blending of third wave ska and punk with classical music arrangements. They have a DIY (or do it yourself) ethic in their approach to their music. All of the instruments played in the project are entirely acoustic (hence the name). They self-released their first recording, an EP entitled A Call to Arms in late 2001. It contained five songs, one of wich was a new arrangement of the Catch 22 song "Dear Sergio," which had original been written by Tomas Kalnoky. They quickly sold out of their self-produced recording and instead offered it on their website for free. However, due to bandwidth limits they had to stop. Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution is a side-project to Tomas Kalnoky's main band, Streetlight Manifesto, which also had Jamie Egan on it playing trombone and trumpet on their first album. Both bands are members of the Risc Group. Starting in late 2003, the Bandits appear to be on hiatus while Kalnoky's main band tours. However, there do seem to be plans for future recordings.
