Basanite - Definition and Overview

Basanite is an igneous, volcanic (extrusive) rock, of felsic composition, with aphanitic to porphyritic texture. Mineral assembly is usually abundant feldspathoids and plagioclase, and lesser alkali feldspar. Pyroxenes (clinopyroxenes) and olivines are common accessory minerals. Quartz is absent.
