Bass (character) - Definition

Bass (known as "Forte" in Japan) is a fictional character and the opponent of Mega Man from the classic Mega Man series. He was introduced first in Mega Man 7 (SNES, 1995) as a potential ally who double-crosses Mega Man near the end of the game and is revealed to be the creation of Dr. Wily. Bass has also appeared in some secondary titles, Mega Man 8 (Sony PlayStation/Sega Saturn 1998) and as a playable character in Mega Man and Bass (Nintendo Game Boy Advance 2003; originally released as Rockman & Forte for the Super Famicom in 1999).

Bass is obsessed in beating Mega Man and thus proving that he is the strongest robot in existence. Bass's name originates from the combination Bass and Treble. (Treble being his robotic pet-dog; "Gospel" is his Japanese name). In the badly dubbed version of Mega Man 8 however the name was pronounced incorrectly which resulted in the creation of "Bass is not a Fish" a hilarious quote/running joke and fanfic by "Mechadrake".

Bass's origins are somewhat under debate as unlike most of Dr. Wily's creations, Bass seems more independent, even rebellious in comparison.
