Battle of Corunna - Definition

The Battle of La Coruña took place on January 16 1809, between 14,000 British under Sir John Moore, and 16,000 French under Marshal Soult, who was endeavouring to prevent the British from evacuating by sea from the port. The French attacks were uniformly repulsed, and the troops safely embarked, with a loss of about 8,000, including Sir John Moore himself. The French lost about 2,000 men.
