The Battle of Coruscant is a fictional conflict in the Star Wars saga, taking place during the opening scene of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

Note: The following plotline is in part a conjecture of what viewers can expect to happen in the film, pending the final outcome of events in the actual theatrical release.

After three years of fighting, the Confederacy of Independent Systems has finally reached the capital of the Republic, Coruscant, and has kidnapped Chancellor Palpatine from under the noses of those sworn to protect him. Attempting to flee Coruscant space with Palpatine imprisoned aboard the massive Trade Federation Cruiser, the Separatist armada is intercepted by the might of the Republic Navy.

Battle erupts in the upper atmosphere of Coruscant, leaving plumes of smoke and the fires of dying ships visible for all to see. In the midst of the destruction, two advanced Jedi starfighters fly into action, heading for the Federation Cruiser, well protected at the heart of the enemy fleet. The Jedi pilots, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his former apprentice Anakin Skywalker, display dazzling skill as they fight their way to the Cruiser.

The Jedi are able to enter the Cruiser's hangar bay, and rescue Palpatine after a confrontation with both General Grievous and Count Dooku. Anakin killed Dooku and the Trade Federation Cruiser crashed to the surface of Coruscant. After the victory of the Republic, perhaps the Clone Wars can finally come to a close.
