Battle of Gravelines - Definition and Overview

The Battle of Gravelines is the name given to two battles:

• The first was fought on July 13, 1558 during the 1547-59 war between France and Spain. The Spaniards, supported by the English navy, successfully attacked Gravelines near Calais.
• The second was a naval battle of Gravelines on July 29, 1588 which saw the defeat of the Spanish Armada by the English.
