Battle of Hubbardton - Definition and Overview

The Battle of Hubbardton was an engagement in the Saratoga Campaign of the American Revolutionary War. On the morning of July 7, 1777 British forces under General Simon Fraser caught up with the American rear gaurd of the forces withdrawing from Fort Ticonderoga. Hubbarton was the only battle of the revolution actually fough in Vermont.

The American leader in the field was John Stark leader of New Hampshire militia forces. The British won, in terms of total casualties and prisoners, but the American resistance did allow the main body to proceed to Fort Edward and participate in the later battles of the campaign.
