Battlefield 2 is an unreleased computer game based on the Electronic Arts Battlefield franchise. Battlefield 2 was announced in the Spring of 2004. Unlike Battlefield Vietnam, the first sequel in the franchise, Battlefield 2 will utilize new engines for gameplay, physics, and graphics, as well as other functions. Battlefield 2 is often compared to the popular Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1942 because both games take place in modern times and, since the acquisition of Desert Combat developer Trauma Studios by DICE, developers that worked on Desert Combat are now working on Battlefield 2.
The game was scheduled to release on March 21, 2005, but has since been delayed to the April, May, or June timeframe. The developers have posted a unoffical shipping date of June 1st 2005.
