Beaches-East York is a political riding in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The riding combines two notable city neighbourhoods: The Beaches and East York. This political boundary has an area used for both provincial and federal representation: municipally it is divided into two halves so there may be a councillor for The Beaches in the south (Ward 32), and one for East York to the north (Ward 31).
Municipally the riding is currently held by Councillor Janet Davis in East York and Deputy Mayor Sandra Bussin in The Beaches.
Both provincially and federally the riding has been historically a political stronghold for the New Democratic Party (NDP). Despite this, the riding has been held federally by a Liberal Party of Canada member and former cabinet minister, Maria Minna, since 1993. In the last federal election of 2004 Minna won a tight race over NDP candidate and former head of Greenpeace, Peter Tabuns, to keep her seat. The riding was called BeachesWoodbine until 1997.
