Beans and chips - Definition

A popular (although not the healthiest) choice for British children at dinnertime. This dish consists of deep fried potato chips accompanied by Baked beans. British families vary the content of the meal from a light snack to a huge fry-up by adding components as in:

  • Beans and chips.
  • Egg, beans and chips.
  • Sausage, egg, beans and chips.
  • Hamburger, sausage, egg, beans and chips.
  • Egg, beans, chips, fried mushrooms and fried tomatoes.
  • Hamburger, sausage, egg, beans, chips, fried mushrooms, fried tomatoes and pineapple fritter.

...etc. etc. etc.

These kind of meals are also served in transport cafes in Britain and the sometimes include SPAM. The various combinations with spam are the basis of the Monty Python sketch which includes the spam song.
