Bear Valley is a resort located east of Angels Camp and Arnold on highway 4. Bear Valley is about a two and a half to three hour drive from the San Francisco Bay Area. The resort is located at a higher elevation than the resort to the south, Dodge Ridge. Bear Valley has 11 lifts: 2 surface lifts and 9 chair lifts. The resort has a vertical drop of 1,900 feet (579 m) and 1,280 acres (5 km²) of skiing with a top elevation of 8,500 feet (2,591 m). Lift tickets are $44.00 for the 2003-2004 season and Tuesdays and Wednesdays are 2 for 1 lift tickets. The neighboring town of Bear Valley is 3 miles (5 km) down the road and can be reached by a ski run from the resort. Accommodations can be found in Bear Valley, Dorrington, Arnold, Murphys, Angels Camp, and Lake Alpine.
