Beggars Banquet is The Rolling Stones' follow up album to the psychedelic Their Satanic Majesties Request. Many believe Banquet cemented their place in rock and roll history. It marked a return to their blues-rock roots in many ways, yet retained influence of styles they had previously explored. Its first track, "Sympathy for the Devil" is one of the Stones' all time classics, which is a combination of history from the Devil's point of view and a take off of the satanic accusations toward the Rolling Stones. It contains another classic, "Street Fighting Man", one of the Stones' foray into political music.

In 2003 the TV network VH1 named Beggars Banquet the 67th greatest album of all time.
