Benbecula Benbecula

Benbecula - Definition and Overview

Benbecula (Scottish Gaelic: Beinn na Faoghla, meaning "the mountain of the ford") is an island of the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. In the 2001 census it had a usually resident population of 1,249. It is administratively part of the Western Isles Region.

Benbecula's main settlement is Balivanich in the northwest. It is the main administrative centre for the Uists and has the council offices and the admin centre for the artillery deep sea firing range on South Uist. The village is also home to Benbecula airport.

Benbecula is a tricolour flag.

Tricolour flags were virtually unknown in the British Isles and it has been widely suggested, especially with Benbecula’s small population which hardly warrants a flag, that this is a modern design.
