Benedetto Croce - Definition and Overview

Benedetto Croce (February 25, 1866 - November 20, 1952) was an Italian critic, idealist philosopher, and political figure. He wrote on numerous topics, including philosophy of history, linguistics and aesthetics, as well as liberty. His influence on Antonio Gramsci is quite notable.

Biography

Croce was born in Pescasseroli in the Abruzzi region of Italy. He was home schooled and never received a degree of any sort. Many members of his family lost their lives in an earthquake there. He is intensely linked to the city of Naples, where he died in 1952.
