Bernard Placidus Johann Nepomuk Bolzano (October 5, 1781 – December 18, 1848) was a German-speaking Czech mathematician, theologian, philosopher and logician. He was born in Prague. He is known for Bolzano's theorem, and also jointly with Karl Weierstrass developed the Bolzano-Weierstrass theorem. In his philosophy, Bolzano attacked the idealism of Hegel and Kant by asserting that numbers, ideas, and truths exist apart from the people who think of them. Bolzano is commonly regarded as one of the precursors to modern logic. He attempted to provide logical foundations for all sciences. External links
