Bethany, Kawartha Lakes, Ontario - Definition

Bethany is a lively village on Ontario's highway 7B, a few kilometers west of Peterborough, (the region's largest city).

It is a gateway community, in that it services the local winter sport ski hill areas several kilometers north of the village. Around 2000, there has been significant real-estate development, mostly in the form of individual dwellings. A mall-like development graces the western margins of town. There is an annual summer drama festival, in which local thespians partake, much to the delight of patrons. To the north are downhill and cross-country ski areas, mostly by paved county roads. Some outstanding example of contemporary log homes can be seen on the south-facing slopes of ski communities.
