Biblical Theology - Definition and Overview

Related Words: Mosaic, Apocalyptic, Apostolic, Canonical, Evangelistic, Gospel, Inspired, Scriptural

Biblical Theology is the study of God as revealed in the inspired Holy Scriptures, the Bible. Usually this is broken into "Old Testament Theology" and "New Testament Theology", as the Covenants and promises of God of the Old Testament were fulfilled by Jesus Christ in the New Testament. As a succinct definition, Biblical Theology examines man's relationship with God solely through the pages of His Holy Word (the Bible), gathering understanding and God's specific revelation from the Bible and the teachings of God's Christ, Jesus. This eliminates a man-scented influence of man's "wisdom" and "philosophy", and relies completely on God's revelation through His chosen prophets and the Apostles of Christ from the New Testament.
