Bimonthly Bimonthly

Bimonthly - Definition and Overview

Bimonthly is a term that is often misused and misinterpreted.

Bimonthly is a term used to describe something that occurs two times each month, or something which occurs every other month, as defined by Dictionary.com (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=bi-monthly).

To avoid ambiguity, it is often preferable to use the word semimonthly, as its explicit definition is for something to occur twice, monthly.

Note, the proper spelling of bimonthly does not include a hyphen. When using the "bi" or "semi" prefix, only words beginning with the letter "i" are hyphenated, i.e. semi-independent.
