Blantyre is the largest city in Malawi and the capital of the country's Southern Region. Blantyre had a population of 646,235 in 2003. The city has at least one television station (see List of television stations in Africa#Malawi). Blantyre is named after the Scottish town where the explorer David Livingstone was born.
