The Bliss bibliographic classification is a library classification system and is known as BC. It is originally developed by Henry E. Bliss and first published in four volumes in the USA between 1940 and 1953. Henry E. Bliss was in charge of the library at the College of the City of New York, now known as The City College of the City University of New York. This system, though devised in the United States, was more commonly adapted by British libraries than by American ones. The second edition of this system has also been developed in the United Kingdom from 1977 and several volumes have been published.
