Bodice Bodice

Bodice - Definition and Overview

A bodice is descriptive word for a section in a piece of clothing for women. It resembles a corset and wraps completely around the body from the hips to the upper chest. It often acts as a support for a skirt and sleeves. Since a bodice is most often tightly fitting, it is often worn above a slip, shift or undershirt. A bodice is often stiffened; being pannelled, boned or wired.

It dates from early medieval times.
