Bolghar - Definition and Overview

Bolğar is a ruined capital (8th-15th century) of Volga Bulgaria in Tatarstan, Spas Rayon (Spassky District).

Modern Bolğar town (since 18th century) is also capital of this district (near the ruins). Population - 8,000. Russians, Tatars (descendents of Bulgars).
