Bonzi Buddy is a on-screen software agent from BONZI Software which claims to be "Your plastic pal who's fun to be with". BONZI Software's corporate motto is Share and Enjoy. It is a well-known example of spyware, with computer speed, privacy and ease of use all negatively affected by installing the program. When you install BonziBUDDY, your homepage gets set to www.bonzi.com.
The user interface is a purple ape who swings across the screen. The ape tells jokes, reads facts, sings songs, checks your e-mail, and delivers voice advertisements. Children often fall for the Bonzi Buddy thinking it's merely a fun toy, not realizing its harmful effects.
The Bonzi Buddy application uses Microsoft Agent technology to display the Bonzi ape on-screen and provide text-to-speech capability.
