Bourges (pop. 76,000) is a city in central France. It is the préfecture (capital) of the département of Cher, and was also the capital of the former province of Berry.
Bourges is located on the Yèvre river.
Its Gothic cathedral (built 1195–1255) has been added to the list of the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1992.
Serge Lepeltier became mayor of the city in 1995 and again in 2001.
The Printemps de Bourges Rock Music festival takes place in Bourges every year.
