Boystown is the commonly accepted nickname for the Chicago, USA, neighborhood more formally known as East Lakeview. Boystown is bordered by Lake Michigan on the East at Lake Shore Drive. The South boundary is bordered by Lincoln Park on the North side of Diversey Ave. (2800 North). To the West Boystown ends at East side of Clark St. (1000 West) bordering Wrigleyville. On the North Boystown stops on the South side of Irving Park Road (4000 North) bordering Buena Park.
Boystown gets its name from its unofficial status as Chicago's gay village. The area caters more to gay men than lesbians, who are culturally more concentrated in the neighborhood of Andersonville. Boystown is considered the "center" of gay life in Chicago.
Two main avenues dominate the heart of this area— Halsted Street and Broadway Avenue. Halsted Street caters to the nightlife of this area with more than 30 different gay and lesbian bars, restaurants and nightclubs; Broadway Avenue offers many different types of specialty shops, as well as some neighborhood institutions, stretching throughout the neighborhood.
