Boz - Definition and Overview

  • Boz was an early pen name of Charles Dickens, and the name under which he published his first work, Sketches by Boz. The name came from "the nickname of a pet child, a younger brother, whom I had dubbed Moses, in honor of The Vicar of Wakefield, which, being pronounced Bozes, got shortened into Boz."
  • The Boz was/is the nickname of the former American Football player and sometime actor Brian Bosworth.
  • The bass guitarist Boz Burrell was credited on at least one album simply as Boz.
