Bridgend - Definition and Overview

Bridgend (Welsh: Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr) is a town in Glamorgan, South Wales, roughly midway between Cardiff and Swansea. The river crossed by the original bridge which gave the town its name is the Ogmore River. The town has three castles: Coity Castle, Ogmore Castle and Newcastle.

It is the main town in the county borough of Bridgend and has a population of around 35000 inhabitants.

Bridgend is twinned with Langenau, Germany.

Bridgend hosted the National Eisteddfod in 1948 and 1998.
