Brij - Definition and Overview

Brij or Braj or Brajbhoomi is a region in Uttar Pradesh of India.

It is closely related to the Hindu epic Mahabharata. Krishna is said to have spent his childhood and adolscence in Brij and therefore, it has important status in the Hindu mythology. Many international Hindu organisations such as ISKCON have setup their offices in Brij.

The people of Brij or the residents or natives of Brij are called Brijwasi. Some of the regions included in Brij are Gokul, Govardhan, Vrindavan. Brij is also famous for its sweets.
