Bronisław Kasper Malinowski (April 7, 1884 – May 16, 1942) was a Polish anthropologist. Malinowski was born in Kraków, Poland. He originated the school of social anthropology known as functionalism, holding the belief that all components of society interlock to form a well-balanced system. In contrast with other contemporary functionalists like Radcliffe-Brown, Malinowski argued that culture functioned to meet the needs of individuals, not the culture as a whole. University positions
