Brooklyn is a small town in New South Wales, Australia, 35 kilometres north of Sydney's central business district. It is within the Hornsby Shire local government area. Population (2001): 677.
Situated at the southern bank of Hawkesbury River, Brooklyn was established in the 1880s as the base for the construction of a major railway bridge linking Sydney with northern New South Wales. The construction company named the town after Brooklyn of New York City, USA. (A replacement bridge was built (http://www.hornsby.nsw.gov.au/uploads/images/twin-bridge.jpg) in the late 1930s, which is still in use today.)
Today Brooklyn is a tourist attraction, with a good marina facility. It is served by the Northern railway line (see CityRail) and the F3 freeway.
