Brown and Williamson - Definition and Overview

Brown & Williamson is an American tobacco company, which produces cigarette brands. It is best known for being the focus of investigation of knowingly manipulating the content of cigarettes. Its former vice-president of research and development Jeffrey Wigand was the subject of an investigation by CBS show 60 Minutes, which was portrayed in the film The Insider.

On July 30, 2004, R.J. Reynolds merged with the U.S. operations of Brown & Williamson. A new publicly traded parent company, Reynolds American Inc., was established as part of the transaction.
