Bruce C. Heezen (1924 - June 21, 1977) was a geologist. He his most famous as being the leader of a team from Columbia University which discovered the Mid-Atlantic Ridge during the 1950s. He was born in Vinton, Iowa, and in 1947 received his B.A. from the Iowa State University; in 1952 he received his M.A. from the Columbia University, and in 1957 his Ph.D. The oceanographic ship U.S.N.S. Bruce C. Heezen was christened in honor of him in 1999. External links
