Burbank, Santa Clara County, California - Definition and Overview

Burbank is a census-designated place and an area located in Santa Clara County, California, part of the neighborhood has been annexed to San Jose, while the rest consists of unincorporated areas of Santa Clara County. As of the 2000 census, the area had a total population of 5,239. The neighborhood was named after Luther Burbank.

The unincorporated areas of Burbank do not fall under San Jose laws, thus the neighborhood is home to several undesirable businesses that are illegal in San Jose, including a strip club, an adult theater, several adult bookstores, and tattoo parlors. The crime rate for the neighborhood is higher than that for the surrounding parts of San Jose, and many blame the adult industry for this.

The area is also a center for antique stores in the San Jose area, often with very clean, nice shops next door to run-down bookstores.
