The Cabot family of Massachusetts was founded by John Cabot, merchant, who moved to Boston in the early 18th century and founded a shipping dynasty that was trafficked in opium, slavery and piracy. After a century or so, the family settled into the artistocracy of New England and became one of the pre-eminent Boston Brahmin clans.
