In Gundam Seed, Cagalli first appears as a mysterious girl. She is seen in the laboratory of Professor Kato in Phase-01: False Peace. After the ZAFT assault on Heliopolis, she and Kira Yamato run to find an attack shelter/lifepod and stumble into the hangar where the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam and GAT-X303 Aegis Gundam still remain. She falls to her knees and screams that her father is a traitor; then Kira and she find a lifepod and she is rushed into it by Kira.
Cagalli disappears from Phase-03 through 16, when she reappears as a member of the Desert Dawn resistance movement in ZAFT-occupied northern Africa. In Phase-24, she reveals that she is Cagalli Yula Athha, the (adopted) daughter of Orb Union president Uzumi Nara Athha.
In Phase-28, we learn that Cagalli Athha is Kira Yamato's twin sister, which Cagalli and Kira do not learn until Phase-40 (Cagalli) and Phase-41 (Kira).
During the latter part of the series, Cagalli becomes romantically involved with Athrun Zala.
Her image song, Akatsuki no Kuruma is composed by Yuki Kajiura and sung by Yuka Nanri (collectively known as FictionJunction YUUKA) and is used at the end of Phase-40.
Cagalli's personal mobile suit (only used, unfortunately, in the last two episodes) is the MBF-02 Strike Rouge.
She is one of the characters which make a return in the follow on series Gundam Seed Destiny. She inherits the presidency of Orb Union from her father, and also continues to pilot the Strike Rouge, albeit with the IWSP pack and not the old Aile pack.
