Cambodian French is a French dialect spoken in Cambodia.
It dates back from the French colonization of Indochina in 1863. To make the natives — especially Khmer and Chinese — understand with the French, they taught French to the natives, although the natives taught them their own language and even some Chinese dialects, being Teochew and Cantonese. This French dialect was influenced by Khmer and Chinese dialects, and was spoken by children of married French men and Khmer or ethnic Chinese women. This is still used as a second language in schools, universities, and government, although most of the younger generations and members of the business world chose to learn English.
