Cancer research - Definition

Cancer research is the intense scientific effort to understand the development of cancer and identify potential therapies. As the Cancer Genome Project put it in a recent review article¹, "a central aim of cancer research has been to identify the mutated genes that are causally implicated in oncogenesis ('cancer genes')".

Cancer research ranges from molecular bioscience to the performance of clinical trials to compare various regimens of chemotherapy.
