Carlos Juan Delgado Hernandez (born June 25, 1972 in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico) is a Major League Baseball player, formerly with the Toronto Blue Jays. Originally a catcher, Delgado became a first baseman and rapidly became one of the most dangerous sluggers in the major leagues. A two-time All Star, Delgado holds a wide variety of Blue Jays single season and career records. He became a free agent on December 8, 2004.
On September 25, 2003, in a game against Tampa Bay, Delgado became only the fifth American League player and 15th major league player to hit four home runs in one single game. He hit a three-run homer in the 1st inning, then led off the fourth, sixth and eighth innings, with three solo shots.

He is also against the occupation of Iraq. Delgado protested the occupation during the 2004 season by staying in the dugout during the playing of "God Bless America", which was ordered by Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig to be played during the seventh inning stretch of all games, after the September 11, 2001 attacks. On July 21, 2004, as was anticipated, Delgado was booed (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5481503/) for his passive protest during a game at Yankee Stadium.
Delgado became a free agent following the 2004 season, and was pursued by the Baltimore Orioles, Florida Marlins, New York Mets, and Texas Rangers. On January 25, 2005, Delgado finally chose the Marlins, singing a four-year contract worth a reported $52 million.
