Caroline Spelman (born 4 May 1958) is a Conservative politician in the United Kingdom and has been MP for Meriden since 1997. She was appointed Shadow Secretary of State for International Development by Iain Duncan Smith in 2001 and remained in the position until his departure. Michael Howard appointed her as a front bench spokesman on Environmental affairs, working for Theresa May. However, in March 2004 she re-entered the shadow cabinet as Shadow Secretary of State for Local and Devolved Government Affairs succeeding David Curry who had unexpectedly resigned for unclear reasons.
