Catenation - Definition and Overview

Catenation is a special property of carbon (and also some other elements like silicon, germanium etc.) due to which it can form covalent bonds with another carbon atom (or Si, Ge etc.). Thus it can form chains and rings. Aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons are examples of catenation.
