Catfish Hunter - Definition and Overview

James Augustus "Catfish" Hunter (April 8, 1946 - September 9, 1999) was a prolific Major League Baseball right-handed starting pitcher between 1965 and 1979. He earned five World Series championship rings, threw a perfect game in 1968, and was known as a skilled control pitcher. He played for the Kansas City and Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees, and was selected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1987.

Hunter died in Hertford, North Carolina, where he was born, as a result of Lou Gehrig's Disease. He was only 53 years old.
