Cauliflower ear (or perichondral hematoma) is a condition common among boxers, martial artists and rugby players. When the external portion of the ear is constantly hit or bashed around, it can become permanently swollen and deformed. Headgear that protects the ears is worn in many martial sports to prevent this risk.
Among some extreme athletes, it is seen as a badge of honor, a scar of experience.
