Cayman Islands dollar - Definition and Overview

The dollar is the currency of the Cayman Islands. It is subdivided into 100 cents. As of January 6, 2005, 1 Cayman Islands dollar was worth US$1.21250 (there's a loose US$1.2 peg). The currency was created in 1971, and the money was issued beginning May 1, 1972. Before then, the Cayman Islands had used the Jamaican dollar. Jamaican dollars remained legal tender for a transitional period ending on August 31, 1972.
